Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (Ipsrt): A Systematic Review
Author Name : Ms Padma C Shaji
ABSTRACT
Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) is an empirically-supported individual psychotherapy for the treatment of adults with bipolar disorder. This innovative approach to the management of bipolar disorder was developed by Ellen Frank and colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh and has now been shown to be efficacious in preventing relapse of mania and depression and in treating acute episodes of bipolar depression when used in combination with pharmacotherapy. Interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT) was designed to directly address the major pathways to recurrence in bipolar disorder, namely medication non-adherence, stressful life events, and disruptions in social rhythms. This paper tries to understand IPSRT in-depth and to provide psychotherapists to get a brief understanding on IPSRT for management of bipolar disorder.
