ABSTRACT Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disorder resulting from intracellular activation and leakage of improper proteolytic enzymes, including active inflammation and pancreatic injury.Globally, the incidence of AP varies and in India prevalence of pancreatitis varies from 2.6-3.2 cases per 100,000 population. The underlying mechanism of injury in pancreatitis is thought to be premature activation of pancreatic enzymes within the pancreas, leading to a process of autodigestion. AP, often worsened by comorbidities and demographic factors such as obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular and renal diseases, alcohol use disorder, and age over 45. The pathophysiology of AP involves acinar cell damage, resulting in premature intrapancreatic activation of digestive proteases. Intestinal obstruction as a complication of AP is rarely seen. Intestinal obstruction is the blockage of the normal passage of luminal contents through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that can be caused by extrinsic compression or an intraluminal process. In this review of literature study, we aimed to describe and delineate current status on the cases of acute pancreatis induced intestinal obstruction.
