Jackfruit (Artocarpus Heterophyllus L.)- A Potential Underutilized Fruit Crop- A Review

ABSTRACT Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus L.), the world’s largest fruit, also known as the Cinderella of fruits, is native to India. Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus L.) is a perennial tropical fruit crop typically reaching a height of 8-25m with a canopy diameter of 3.5-6.7m at 5 years of age. Suitable to grow in wide range of soil with an elevation of 1600 msl. Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus L.) is known to have a rich source of minerals and vitamins. Ripe fruits are rich in Vitamin A, B. and C. Apart from vitamins. Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus L.) trees earned additional incomes to farmers by intercropping the fruit tree with short duration crops like pulses, spices and vegetables, if water availability is not limited.
