Journey of Self-Discovery: A Study of Sudha Murthy's Female Protagonist
Author Name : Dr. Naresh Rathee, Monika
ABSTRACT
Sudha Murthy has a remarkable place in the realm of English writing in India. She is one of the modern writers talking about gender discrimination, unequal distribution of power, lack of social opportunities, domestic violence, and many other physical and mental concerns faced by women in society. Murthy reflects women's emotions as well as women's sensibilities through her women protagonists. In all her works, she portrays the images of innocent women who lose their identity due to social stigma. The present paper attempts to bring out the intellectual journey and transformation process of Murthy's women protagonists from victims to fighters and submissive to obstinate. The article focuses on understanding how her main characters develop the power of inner consciousness through self-discovery. The researcher aims to determine how her female protagonists tried to assess the importance of self-value in life. It also tries to analyze Sudha Murthy's works from the psychoanalytic perspective to discover the character's psyche turmoil, tension, inner conflicts, and suppression.
