Knowledge Attitude and Practice (KAP) towards COVID 19 & Shigellosis among medical students and the impact on their personal life : A cross-sectional study

ABSTRACT The outbreak of Shigellosis dysentery and consecutive mortality among young children during the COVID 19 pandemic is a peak challenge for the Kerala state health care system. The concurrence of two infectious diseases outbreak, both viral and bacterial, at a single time frame shattered the peace and well being among Keralites. Medical students are not only a part of academic university, they are obliged to share social responsibility too. Medical students should gain academic knowledge on the infectious diseases by self directed learning through social media and text books. Medical students must have a responsible attitude towards the health care of the community. Unless a medical student practice the personal hygiene and precautionary measures himself , he can’t advice public sector the same. This KAP study is undertaken to probe the medical student’s Knowledge (K), Attitude(A) and Practice(P) towards the infectious diseases COVID 19 and Shigellosis. Also this study helps us to know the impact of the pandemic on their personal life such as learning behavior, sleep duration & relation with their family members.
