Ladakh Is At Cross Roads: A Study on Economic, Cultural, Industrial and Tourism Prospects of Remote Sensitive Region of Himalaya

ABSTRACT

Ladakh, the land of high passes, whose biggest town is Leh, accompanied by Kargil, each of which headquarters a district. About 84% of Ladakh's population lives in villages. An increasing number of Muslim men and Ladakhi Buddhist women are marrying each other following a decline in the population of Buddhist men in Ladakh. Religious mask dances are an important part of Ladakh's cultural life. The most popular sports in Ladakh is ice hockey which is played only on natural ice. Both China and India are rising nations which have a disputed 3800-kms long border. Agriculture has been the backbone of Ladakh economy, except agriculture other mode of economic activities of Ladakh are related with Tourism, MSME. Industrial activities are growing day by day using its present resources of water, wind, and an abundant reserve of mineral resources. Above all, recently army personnel have played a vital role not only for the security of the Country but also by opening the different avenues of economy in Ladakh.
