ABSTRACT
Vipadika is one of the Kshudra Kushtha (minor skin diseases) according to Charaka, with Pani Pada Sphutana (cracking of the skin in the palms and soles) and Teevravedana (severe pain) as the cardinal symptoms.[i] It is a Vata–Kaphaja Kushtha. Vipadika can be compared to Palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK). Palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) is a group of Skin conditions characterized by thickening of the Skin on the palms and sole. Palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) can be either acquired (more commonly) or inherited. Acquired PPK may arise due to changes in a person’s health or environment[ii]. A 50yr old male patient came with complaints of cracking of Skin in palms, blackish discoloration (Shyavavaivrnyata) associated with severe pain (Shoola), itching (Kandu), and burning sensation (Daha) since 2 months. He was treated with external application of Yashthimadhuchurna + Triphalachurna (1:3) with Goghrita twice a day after washing (Prakshalan) with Kwatha of Triphala and Panchnimbachurna. He was also given the Sanshamnivati internally 2 tab twice a day for 5 weeks. The lesions were progressively improved.
