ABSTRACT

In this present study, Geopolymer concrete(GPC) is developed using fly ash & ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as the binder material and sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate combination as the alkaline activator. Efforts have been made in this study to assess the influence of metakaolin  addition on the mechanical properties of the fly ash based geopolymer concrete. GGBS is kept constant with 20% replacement with flyash. Geopolymer Concrete is prepared with metakaolin with replacements of flyash at different percentages i.e., 5%, 10%, 15% & 20% for alkaline solutions having molarities 10 & 12. From the study, it is found that the geopolymer concrete mechanical properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength , flexural strength improved with the addition of metakaolin upto 15% replacement and after 15% there is reduction in strengths.
