Mobile Security: A Review of Vulnerabilities in Android vs. iOS
Author Name : Priyanshu Raj, Aditya Chourey, Suman Verma
ABSTRACT The increasing reliance on mobile devices for personal and professional activities has brought mobile security to the forefront of technological concerns. This paper examines the vulnerabilities in Android and iOS, the two dominant mobile operating systems, to provide a comparative analysis of their security challenges. Android’s open-source nature fosters innovation and customization but makes it more susceptible to malware, spyware, and fragmented updates. Conversely, iOS’s closed ecosystem offers robust defenses but faces risks from sophisticated exploits like zero-click attacks and improper implementation of security protocols. The paper explores these vulnerabilities in detail, highlighting the implications for user data security and privacy. Recommendations for enhancing mobile security, including strengthening app vetting processes, ensuring timely updates, educating users, and fostering collaborative efforts, are also presented. By understanding the unique challenges faced by each platform, this study aims to promote more secure practices and encourage the development of stronger mobile security frameworks.
