ABSTRACT

This article focus on research we have carried out related to cross linking of Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose ( HPMC)  and Vanillin in the ratio 1: 1 we confirmed the cross linking using IR spectroscopy results. We compared the cross linked polymer ( HPMC & Vanillin in ratio 1:1) with plain HPMC. We performed the evaluation of Plain HPMC and cross linked polymer ( HPMC & Vanillin in ratio 1:1). From the IR result it was concluded that cross linking occur between HPMC and Vanillin.  Resulting  polymer due to cross linking bond between hydroxyl group of methoxy group and ether group become more stronger. From the comparison it is concluded that cross linked polymer shows better flow property than Plain HPMC and more swelling of tablet containing cross linked polymer. This shows that cross linked polymer enhanced the sustaining of tablet and decrease the drug release from tablet. So it can be use to enhance  sustained release formulation.

Keywords:  HPMC, Vanillin, sustained release, cross linking, FT-IR,  swelling index, Aminophylline.
