Multiculturalism and Multilingualism in German intercultural Literatures in May Ayim’s Poem ‘grenzenlos und unverschämt’ and Yoko Tawada’s selected chapters in ‘Talisman’: A New Perspective
Author Name : Dr Mercy Vungthianmuang Guite
ABSTRACT
This paper indulges in understanding the ideas of multiculturality and look at these concepts with a new perspective and pose certain pertinent questions through the exemplary texts of German ‘Intercultural’ literature/s. The paper aims to critically examine multiculturality or multilingualism as a concept juxtaposed to homogeneity of the majoritarian society. My paper is also an attempt to look into the various layers of “otherness” faced by the non-native citizens in a multicultural society such as Germany. The paper tries to comprehend the subtle intellectual discriminations which exists in ‘intercultural Literatures’ expressed through the texts of the two authors and also deal with the concepts and challenges of multilingualism and multiculturalism as oppose to homogenous societies.
