Author Name : Dr. Sai Keerthana P C, Amulya Diya, Aneena Joju, Angela Johnson, Anna Baby, Fathima Jasna
ABSTRACT Aseptic meningitis is the inflammation of the brain's protective membranes due to different factors, resulting in negative bacterial cultures in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The condition is identified by CSF pleocytosis, indicating an increased white blood cell count. Aseptic meningitis is common and usually mild, although the symptoms can differ significantly depending on the root cause and the patient's immune system status.Close evaluation and treatment involving an interprofessional team are crucial for effectively managing patients with aseptic meningitis.Several drug induced aseptic meningitis has been linked to non-steroidalanti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), among which naproxen induced is of rare complication. A 13-year-old female was admitted with a complaint of severe headache, accompanied by multiple joint pains and muscle pain for the past 4 months. Additionally, the patient experienced recurrent vomiting, fever, and loose stools over the last 2 days. She had been using naproxen for her headache for one month. The cessation of naproxen usage resulted in a quick recovery from meningeal symptoms. Based on the patient’s history of joint pain, muscle pain, and supporting serological evidence, we attributed the symptoms to naproxen-induced aseptic meningitis.
