Natural Pesticides in Stored Grain Food: A Review

Our populace, fast-paced demands affordable quality food. The pest such as various insects, pathogen, mites, etc. can cause severe damage to stored grains resulting in both qualitative and quantitative losses. Hence, pesticides have been introduced as a chemical agent to kill or destroy the pests. Although chemical pesticides has proven to be advantageous including better economy with higher crop yield and improved livestock. But excessive use of these pesticides can have negative impact on environment possible toxic health effects on humans as well as on non-target species. Therefore, an alternative approach has been made that natural pesticides are safer, potent and have short residual effect than harsh chemicals on humans and kinder to the environment. e.g. neem, pyrethrum, spinosad, rotenone, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), g
