Need of the Hour: Ethical and Responsible Media

ABSTRACT: Today, the Intercession of Media in pending trials has turn into very common affair. Every individual including judicial officer somehow induced to follow up media‟s investigation. Especially in high profile cases, where the decisions upheld as a result of media intervention become the concluding outcome in trial court also. For proper functioning in a democracy, an uninfluenced and healthy media is must. Even if, media assist in bringing social, political transformation in a encouraging way but at times it is also seen that media engage keen on business ventures who compete just to get better TRPs. Gone are the days when journalism was considered to be an idealistic profession and „pen‟s mightiness over sword‟ was well maintained. The journey of media from „fourth estate of democracy‟ to „sensational journalism‟ endorses the selling of human values1. Even in this race of ratings and popularity a few fundamental ethical deliberation required to be kept in the mind by media persons while covering any under trial case. This research paper is an attempt to evaluate the requirement of participation of media ethics in playing a keen job in delivering the real justice to the society.
