ABSTARCT The Reduced Beam Section (RBS) connection is a well-established method in structural engineering, widely adopted in the US, Japan, and Europe. However, research focusing on its application to Indian structural profiles is limited. This study aims to investigate the benefits of RBS connections in inclined beam-column configurations and assess their effectiveness with Indian sections. Unlike traditional vertical columns, inclined columns experience different shear and flexural forces, which can affect failure modes, strength, and ductility of beam-column joints. To address this, the study employs a finite element model, analyzed using ANSYS Workbench 16.0, to evaluate the performance of RBS connections with round and trapezoidal cuts in the beam's web and flange. Cyclic loading tests are conducted to measure the load-carrying capacity of various beam-column connections. The designs are based on IS 12778-2004 and IS 12779-1989 standards. This research provides insights into the utility of RBS connections for Indian structural profiles and contributes to the optimization of inclined beam-column connections in seismic-resistant design.
