Partial Replacement of Bitumen Using Plastic Waste in Bituminous Pavement
Author Name : Prof. Prashant L Jadhav, Prof. Vrushabh A Kadam, Prof. Yogita M Rajput
ABSTRACT
Major issues like pollution and global warming occurs due to waste plastic and its disposal which are major threat to the environment. The utilization of plastic waste in bituminous mixes enhances its properties and also its strength1. Addition to this the utilization of plastic waste in bituminous mixes will be a solution to plastic disposal & various defects in pavement viz., pot holes, corrugation, ruts, etc. The waste plastic used are poly-ethylene, poly-styrene, and poly-propylene which are shredded, coated over aggregate & mixed with hot bitumen. The resultant mix is used for pavement construction. The titanium-di-oxide is used as a smoke absorbent material, which will absorb the smoke from the vehicles. This technology will be a boon for environment. It is economical and eco-friendly. In this paper, we have discussed about the soil properties to be considered in design of pavement, pavement design, and process of constructing flexible and plastic-smoke absorbent pavement.
Keywords:eradication of pot holes,flexible pavement,plastic waste,strength.
