Patient-Centered Care: Exploring the Impact of Nurse-Patient Communication on Treatment Outcomes
Author Name : Aljoharah Saleem Almutairi, Awatif Shati Alanazi, Amani Muzil Alotaibi
Patient-centered care (PCC) emphasizes the importance of understanding patients' needs, preferences, and values in the healthcare setting, which can significantly influence treatment outcomes. This review paper explores the role of nurse-patient communication as a fundamental aspect of PCC. Effective communication between nurses and patients fosters trust, enhances patient engagement, and improves adherence to treatment plans, all of which contribute to better clinical outcomes. By examining existing literature, this paper identifies key communication strategies, such as active listening, empathy, and shared decision-making, and their positive impact on patients’ psychological well-being, satisfaction, and overall health. Additionally, barriers to optimal communication, such as time constraints, cultural differences, and emotional challenges, are discussed. The paper concludes with recommendations for improving nurse-patient communication, including targeted education, organizational support, and the integration of communication tools in practice.
