Phytochemical Analysis of Pongamia Pinnata (L.)

ABSTRACT The recent study is based on the replacement of anti-diarrhoeal, anti-psoriosis anti-ulcerogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-plasmodial and analgesic drugs by use of medicinal plant like Derris indica or Pongamia Pinnata (L.) commonly called as Karanja in Hindi and Marathi. Medicinal properties of Karanja plant is due to presence of some bio active chemical constituents. This phytochemical analysis of Pongamia Pinnata (L.) was carried out by author shows that Pongamia Pinnata (L.) contains chemicals like alkaloids, carbohydrates, tannin, steroids, flavonoids, triterpenoids, saponins, starch, protein, phenols, ascorbic acids and amino acids and shows presence of some elements which are also observed in few drugs in anti-diarrhoeal, anti-psoriosis, anti-ulcerogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-plasmodial and analgesic drugs, anti-healing.
