Phytochemical efficiency of Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi) in health enhancement and disease prevention: A review

ABSTRACT

The Ocimum sanctum is one of the plants to have medicinal and therapeutic values and is equally distributed all over the world. The genus Ocimum is also found in many different types of environments and in different climatic conditions. Ocimum has been utilized in different health enhancements and immunization purposes as it is having a large quantity of phytochemicals which have different antioxidant properties also. The phytochemicals have much efficiency to improve human health along with several economic importance also which is quite evident worldwide responsible for preventing diseases and giving significant immunity to the body. Several studies also suggested that Ocimum’s phytochemical can also detoxify many compounds that may cause cancer. Recent molecular docking studies also shown possibility of targeting the SARS-CoV-2 protease through the Ocimum sanctum. Various types of phytochemical potential of Ocimum sanctum in health enhancement and immunization have been structured and discussed in the detailed review.
