Enantia chlorantha is an ornamental plant that is widely used in herbal medicine for the treatment of several ailments such as malaria, infective hepatitis, jaundice etc. The medicinal properties of this plant maybe due to one or more of its phytochemical constituents. This project was carried out to determine the phytochemical constituents in the stem bark of Enantia Chlorantha commonly known as African yellow wood. The stem bark was sun dried for two weeks, grounded into powder and stored in an air tight container. After which it was soaked in methanol for 72 hours. Qualitative test was carried out on the stem bark extract of Enantia Chlorantha for the presence of the phytochemical’s constituents present in the plant extract. The result showed the presence of flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, glycoside, reducing sugar and phenol. These Phytochemicals were detected through the observations of some color as recommended reagents were added to the extracts. This result justifies the claim that Enantia Chlorantha is medicinal and of high health benefit to man.
