Polytechnic Education in the Context of National Education Policy 2020 – Contemplation

ABSTRACT
The National Education Policy (NEP) – 2020 aims to transform the educational system of India no later than the year 2030 by introducing several positive and long lasting reforms in the present education system including technical and polytechnic education in India. Polytechnic education has played, and will be playing a vital role in the Industrial development of our country by creating skilled middle level manpower and enhancing industrial productivity. Moreover, polytechnic institutions are primarily imparting technical education to economically and socially weaker sections of the society providing them multiple self-employment opportunities. By not recognizing this contribution of the polytechnic education to the industrial development of India, the NEP 2020 has totally sidelined the significance of polytechnic education. In this backdrop, this paper aims to contemplate on the relevance and prospects of polytechnic education in India in the context of NEP 2020.
