ABSTRACT Postoperative pain following endodontic procedures is a common concern that can significantly impact patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes. This pain often arises from multiple etiological factors, including tissue inflammation, procedural trauma, residual infection, and technical errors during treatment. Psychological aspects, such as anxiety, can further exacerbate the perception of pain. Effective pain management is essential and typically involves a multimodal approach. This includes the use of pharmacological agents such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen, and, in certain cases, opioids to address varying levels of discomfort. Preemptive analgesia can be beneficial in mitigating postoperative pain, while nonpharmacological strategies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and cold therapy, may also play a supportive role. Regular follow-up and monitoring are critical for assessing pain levels and adjusting management strategies accordingly. Educating patients about potential postoperative pain and involving them in their pain management plan enhances their coping mechanisms and overall satisfaction. In conclusion, a comprehensive understanding of the etiology of postoperative pain, coupled with a tailored pain management strategy, is vital for improving patient experiences and outcomes in endodontics. Ongoing research is necessary to refine these strategies and ensure optimal care. This review article aims to provide a brief insight on Post-operative endodontic pain ethology and management strategies.
