ABSTRACT:  The population of the world is increasing day by day and at the same time the cultivable land is decreasing every year worldwide and agricultural soil fertility is degrading drastically. In order to feed the ever-increasing world population, there is a need toincrease the productivity by introducing improved and high yielding varieties of crop plants. Introducing new varieties through the conventional breeding techniques requires 8-12years of time. Through double haploid plants which are completely homozygous, improved varieties can be released in 2-5yearsof time.
