ABSTRACT

Proteins are a class of biopolymers with unique features that can be used as raw materials in the manufacture of nanoparticles for medication delivery. The importance of protein-based nanostructures in the nanomedicine era has lately been recognized. Protein nanoparticles have proven to be the primary catalyst for the modification of many traditional materials' characteristics due to their smaller size and increased surface area, which causes them to be more reactive to other molecules. Chemicals and biomolecular medications, such as anticancer agents and therapeutic proteins, have been delivered using nanoparticles extensively. Because of their safety, natural biomolecules such as proteins are an appealing alternative to synthetic polymers frequently utilized in nanoparticle fabrication. Protein nanoparticles offer higher biocompatibility and biodegradability, as well as the ability to modify their surface. Furthermore, there were no harmful chemicals or organic solvents used in the manufacturing of protein nanoparticles or the subsequent encapsulatingprocedure. Protein nanoparticles may be formed from fibroins, albumin, gelatin, gliadin, legumin, 30Kc19, lipoprotein, ferritin, whey protein, elastin, zein, soy protein, and milk proteins utilizing emulsion, electrospray, complex coacervation, and desolvation techniques. Particle size and polydispersity, particle shape, and surface charge are allcharacteristics of protein nanoparticles. Eminent scholars have researched and reported on a variety of protein nanoparticle uses via various modes of administration, which are discussed in this study.
