Author Name : Lila Bhai T S, Madhu G, Sreekanth T M, Roy M Thomas

ABSTRACT

TiO2-Flyash nanocomposite had been successfully synthesized via thermal hydrolysis process at 1200C and 48h. continuous reflux condensation and characterized by XRD, SEM and FTIR spectroscopy. The results of XRD and SEM demonstrated that the as prepared product was mainly TiO2 nanoparticles with a large surface area. The SEM images showed that the product was found to consist of a mixture of irregular spherical nanoparticles of dia70 nm and whiskers of uneven length. FTIR spectrum of TiO2 nanoparticles shows free bands corresponding to Ti-O and Si-OH modes. Nanocompsite prepared from TiO2 nanoparticles and modified flyash was used to investigate its promising applications in waste water treatment. Batch experiments were conducted to assess the adsorption potential of the nanocomposite in removing Cr(VI) from waste water.  The results showed that the nanocomposite can be effectively used for the removal of Cr(VI) from waste water. The capacity of the adsorbent for the removal of chromium from aqueous solutions was quantified using Langmuir equation. The facile synthesis method and the super adsorption performance derived from the TiO2-fly ash nanocomposite display its potential application for removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous environment.
