Author Name : Vd. Aniket Bhausaheb bachhav, Vd. Ravindra S.Phadol
ABSTRACT Basti chikitsa is considered to be prime treatment modality among the panchkarma in ayurveda. Acharya chakradatta has mentioned this “Vairtarana basti” (ch 73 Niruha adhikara),other references were from VRUDDHA Madhava and Vangasena. Vaitarana Vasti is one type of basti that has particular indications and a distinct formulation. The definition of Vaitarani in Vaitarani Mahatmya is Vai (really) tarini (saving), suggesting that administering this basti on time helps a person recover their health and escape the pain of rogas. Vaitarana basti is practiced now a day’s extensively with excellent results in diseases like Amavata, Katishoola, Gridhrasi, Vishamajwara etc. The formulations that each Acharya mentioned differ in a few manners. It is also observed in clinical practice that the components are modified based on the characteristics of the disease. Vaitarana basti is not described in Brihat Trayee. There are differing opinions in clinical practice when it comes to figuring out how much of each component to use, how much Drava Dravya to use, etc. The majority of research on Vaitarana basti concentrates on Amavata. Further research is necessary on the remaining indicators, such as Klaibya. To standardize the amount of components, choose the right substances for various illness situations, and determine Vaitarana basti's mechanism of action in various diseases, more investigations and studies are required.
