Author Name : Manisha Sharma, Prof. Amit Dholakia
ABSTRACT
The present paper aims to analyze the National Food Security Act, 2013 was introduced into India’s parliament on 22 December 2011, promulgated as a presidential ordinance on 5th July 2013, and enacted into law on 12 September 2013. The paper fundamentally argues that an analysis on this line is essential. This is because the Right to Food is inherent to a life with dignity, and Article 21 of the constitution of India which guarantees a fundamental right to life and personal liberty should be read with articles 39 (a) and 47 to understand the nature of the obligations of the state order to ensure the effective realization of this right. Here, the paper for this purpose has five sections. The section one elaborates on the idea of Right to Food itself, the second section goes with evolution of Right to Food in India. The third section highlights the main features of the National Food Security Act, 2013. The fourth section of the paper discusses the main strengths and weaknesses of the National Food Security Act, 2013 and the fifth section presents suggestions for the successful implementations of the Act.
