Satisfaction of Intensive Care Units (ICU) Patients and Family Members Regarding Communication and Expected Information Received from Health Care Personnel

ABSTRACT

This study was assessed the satisfaction of ICU patients and family members regarding communication and expected information received from health care personnel. The main objectives were to assess the level of satisfaction of ICU patients regarding their communication with health care personnel, to assess the level of satisfaction of family members regarding information received from health care personnel. Non experimental descriptive design was used and 100 subjects (50 patients admitted in ICU and 50 family members) were selected using convenience sampling. Structured interview schedule was used to collect the data from patients admitted in ICU for2-6 days and their family members who was staying with patient outside ICU for minimum of 24 hours. Karl Pearson’s product moment of correlation coefficient was computed between information expected and received from health care personnel. The result showed that 94% of ICU patients were moderately satisfied and 60% of their family members were moderately satisfied with information received from health care personnel. There was no relation between information expected and received from health care personnel(r=0.0113 at 0.05 level of significance)
