“Self Help Groups of Namsang Circle of Tirap District, Arunachal Pradesh: A Way Forward”

ABSTRACT Self help groups have a positive impact in social, economic and educational sphere. It is playing a vital role in developing rural areas and rural people. SHGs also play a way for obtaining a method for raising money, skill development, ending social isolation; give them feeling of personal relation, social intimacy, social confidence, etc. Self help groups are an effective strategy for the empowerment of women in rural as well as urban areas bringing women together from all spheres. The selected study areas were Sumsi village, Sipini village, Namsang village and Deomali town. The study was based on to know the role of SHGs which include their work, functions, objectives, problems and benefits of SHGs. From the choosen villages the research work was conducted taking 9(Nine) SHGs namely Nanyong, Kuudu, Khatsu, Lotus, Summong, Hungnyan, Divine, MKR and Ajut group were purposively selected and interviewed. The first (6) six Self Help Groups were mainly engaged with agriculture activities as they have low level of education, transport and their suitable climate conditions. The remaining 3(three) groups were engaged in cultivation of mushroom, handloom and runs restaurants. The paper also tries to highlights their problems, activities and management of Self help groups.
