Self-Initiated Expatriates: A Neglected Pool of Employees

Author Name : Ms. Uroosa Aslam , Dr. Mohammad Fayaz

ABSTRACT

Increased mobility of highly qualified people from one country to another has been a hallmark of globalization in recent decades. The purpose of this study is to investigate the little-studied adjustment experiences of expatriates who self-initiate (SIE) their employment in foreign countries. The theoretical foundation for this study is the Black et al. (1991) model of expatriate adjustment. Despite the fact that self-initiated expatriation is a common occurrence, it is a relatively under-researched subject in the academic literature, particularly in the context of organizations. This conceptual study strives to clarify the self-initiated expatriate/expatriation notion in order to better understand it. differentiating it with Organizational Expatriates (OEs) and recommends improvising Human Resource Policy for retaining Self-Initiated Expatriates employees.
