Significance of Vijayanagara Empire

ABSTRACT

Vijayanagara is based on the Deccan Plateau in southern part of India. It is also called as City of Victory and located in the banks of Tungabhadra River. It covers a large area and empanelled in the modern era named Group of Monuments at Hampi. It is located at Vijayanagara district and Bellary district in Karnataka in India. A part of Vijayanagara is called as Hampi. Hampi is known as ancient settlement of Hindu Texts and has pre-Vijayanagara temples and monuments. Sangama brothers founded this city who was working as soldiers in Kampi Kingdom under Kampalidevaraya. The city developed in a rapid manner. Vijayanagara Empire created a barrier of the Muslim sultanate of the northern part of India. This city accepts people having different cultural backgrounds such as Jainism, Islam and many others. It creates mutual influences among them.  In 1500 CE, HampiVijayanagara was the second largest city of the world.
