Author Name : Prof. Ganesh Shelke, Nirbhay Mishra, Shubhangi Tikal, Sanika Gaikwad
ABSTRACT A Smart stick system concept is devised to provide a smart electronic aid for blind people. Blind and visually impaired people find difficulties in detecting obstacles while navigating. The goal of the project is to help the visually impaired person to navigate their environment. The system is intended to provide artificial vision and object detection, real time assistance via GPS by making use of Raspberry Pi. The system consists of ultrasonic sensors; GPS module, GSM module and the feedback is receive through audio, voice output. The proposed system detects an object around them and sends feedback in the form of speech. This paper presents a critique on vision aided systems and suggests an inexpensive alternative to develop an aided system for visually impaired persons. We propose a real-time solution which utilizes image processing methodology and low cost hardware to support the visually impaired for every day path navigation and obstacle avoidance. The aim of the paper is to address the development work of a cane that could communicate with the users through voice alert and vibration providing information about the environment scenario for independent navigation.
