Socio Cultural and Institutional Issues of Agricultural Communities
Author Name : Mirajiani
ABSTRACT
The farmers’ sociocultural and institutional conditions are often deemed as the central issue and weakness in improving the function of the agricultural sector in national development and the sector’s ability to compete at present and in the future. Identification of sociocultural aspects and community institutions is necessary as an initial step in the efforts to learn from the failures of development programs in the past. A comprehensive understanding of a community’s lifestyle is a basis to identify the process of changing attitudes and behaviors of agricultural communities as a target of agricultural development and to determine the success of agricultural development in the future. Farmers’ sociocultural characteristics are characters that are shaped by factors related to natural influence. The design of agricultural development programs must be adjusted to the farmers’ sociocultural characteristics. Agricultural development in the future requires improvement in the aspect of agricultural institutions since the success of institutional development determines the success of future development programs.
