Soil Stabilization by using Plastic Waste

Author Name : Nitesh Kumar Singh, Prof. Mohit Verma

ABSTRACT

Soil stabilization is a process which improves the physical properties of soil, such as increasing shear strength, bearing capacity etc. which can be done by use of controlled compaction or addition of suitable admixtures like cement, lime and waste materials like fly ash, phosphor gypsum etc. This new technique of soil stabilization can be effectively used to meet the challenges of society, to reduce the quantities of waste, producing useful material from non-useful waste materials. Soil stabilization refers to alteration of soil properties to improve the stability or bearing power of the soil by controlled compaction, proportioning or by adding admixtures. Soil stabilization can be done by different methods like mechanical, chemical stabilization or by using different types of admixtures. Soil stabilization by using waste plastic waste material is one of the most economical approaches. The most common improvements achieved through stabilization include better soil gradation, reduction of plasticity index or swelling potential, and increases in durability and strength.
