STEM Education as an Innovative Pedagogical Practice in the Light of NEP 2020
Author Name : Ramesh Harish
ABSTRACT It is a widely held belief that educational institutions should empower learners with knowledge and abilities to deal with an ever-changing environment. It is in this backdrop that STEM Education (STEM) has garnered attention from various stakeholders as an innovative practice in improving the pedagogical process. STEM (stands for „Science‟, „Technology‟, „Engineering‟ and „Mathematics‟)is an interdisciplinary approach to education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application.Students apply „science‟, „technology‟, „engineering‟ and „mathematics‟ in contexts that links their classroom learnings with their surroundings. This approach to learning is centred on experiential learning, also aligning well with the objectives of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) with respect to transforming the school pedagogy. The purpose of this study is to throw light on STEM as an innovative pedagogical practice and find linkages between STEM and NEP 2020. This paper underscores the significance of STEM as an innovative pedagogical practice, shedding light on its role in transforming the school pedagogy which is in synchronization with the goals of NEP 2020. The researcher's exhaustive review of current literature serves as a catalyst for policy makers, educators and other stakeholders to work towards embracing the fascinating realms of STEM and integrate it in the current education system.
