“Study of Pipe Rack Design under Different Support Conditions”

ABSTRACT Pipe racks are open framed structures with bracings that are adopted for the modular construction. Designed for modular construction, pipe racks are open-framed structures with bracings. For fire safety, the steel pipe racks are often covered in concrete; however, this is not intended to provide structural support. This chapter suggests three novel and inventive frames for pipe racks: a frame with mechanical joints that can be easily assembled and disassembled to accommodate last-minute design changes; a frame made of steel-concrete hybrid composite with monolithic rigid beam-column connections; and a pipe rack structure that uses prestressed precast frames. With pinned joints on steel pipe rack frames, braces were unavoidable; these joints are now rigid. When the need for design modifications arises, the suggested fast track solution can potentially eliminate the need for frame corrections. The steel frames for the off-site modular construction may be replaced by the suggested hybrid rigid frames, which have the advantage of easy installation and disassembly.
