ABSTRACT This study explores the potential of utilizing eggshell powder (ESP) as partial replacement for cement in concrete, aimed at enhancing sustainability in construction industry. Concrete production significantly contributes to CO2 emissions, and finding alternative materials to reduce reliance on cement is crucial. Eggshells, primarily composed of calcium carbonate, offer a viable solution due to their similar properties to limestone, a key ingredient in cement. Research involved a series of laboratory experiments to evaluate physical and chemical properties of ESP, its effects on the workability, compressive strength, and durability of concrete, and its environmental and economic benefits. Results indicate replacing cement with up to 10% ESP maintains comparable compressive strength to regular concrete while improving durability by reducing water absorption and chloride ion perforation. However, higher proportions of ESP decreased workability and compressive strength. The study concludes that ESP can be sustainable and cost-effective partial replacement for cement, promoting waste recycling and reducing the carbon footprint of concrete production.
