Subjugation of Afghan Women Caused by Patriarchy in Khalid Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns

ABSTRACT

Women have been struggling because of the patriarchal ideologies prevalent in the world and Afghanistan is one among the many countries in the world that continues to follow the ideologies of patriarchy owing to which the Afghan women are deprived of the merits of life. This paper attempts to examine the different ideologies of patriarchy that adds to the downfall of women through Khalid Hosseini’s novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns. This study will implement the theories of renowned theorists like Kate Millet, Bell Hooks, and Robert Jensen. This research paper is based on the close reading of both primary and secondary source and thus, it will be a qualitative research.
