Symbolism and Colours Play an Important Role in Healing

“The word symbolism is the use of symbol to represent ideas or qualities.” According to Dictionary from Oxford Language. According to a few Anthropologists “Symbolism is an expression of emotions and thoughts. The term symbolism is derived from the word “Symbol” which derives from the Latin word “Symbolum” a sign of faith and “Symbolus” a sign of recognition. Symbolism is the art of imbuing objects or things with meaning, by representing something more than the sum of its parts. The symbols are an abstraction of real identity. Symbolism is not used in art only but in literature too. It is a figure of speech used by author to create mood and emotion in composition. Some common types of symbolism in literature are metaphor and allegory. Symbols are existing in the paintings and literature in all over the globe from ancient periods to contemporary world. The symbols are transformed from generation to generation and culture to culture. An artistic and poetic movement or style using symbolic images and indirect suggestions to express mystical images and ideas, emotions and state of mind. The aptitude of symbolization, characteristic of man, exhibited by every manifestation of representation of natural phenomenon or subject with the reference of meaning. We can recognise diverse forms of symbolism through different phases of art history like ritualistic, social, religious, functional, spiritual, universal and colour symbolism. In this research paper main focus is on aesthetic study of symbolic use of various forms and colours to explore the way of manifestation.
