Synthesis, characterization of NiO Nanoparticle prepared from Nickel hydroxy chalcone complexes and Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B Dye
Author Name : VIKAS V. BORGE, R. M. PATIL
ABSTRACT
Nanostructured NiO has been successfully synthesized via Thermal decomposition method at 7000C. Prepared NiO were characterized using IR Spectra, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). IR Spectra confirms the metal-oxygen bonding in these nanoparticle. The XRD pattern confirms single phase crystalline nature of the nanoparticle. The synthesized NiO was demonstrated as efficient catalyst in degradation of Rhodamine B in the presence of light through oxidation. More than 92% of the Rhodamine B dye was degraded after 120 min. It was observed that photocatalytic degradation of dyes follows pseudo first order kinetics. A tentative mechanism has also been proposed for the photocatalytic degradation of dyes in presence of Nickel oxide semiconductor.
