The Effect of Agneepath Scheme in the Indian Economy

ABSTRACT

On 14^th June 2022 a new scheme named Agneepath has been introduced by the Indian Government where the main aim is to employ the youth of India aged 17.5 to 21 (later extended to 23 years) in the Indian Armed Forces for 4 years. The objectives of this article were to study whether Agneepath scheme would be a boon or curse to the youth of India and to study about the various Agneepath-like schemes in other countries keeping in view the nationwide protest held against the scheme. Concerns such as temporary employment and absence of pension were raised during the protest. This article discusses whether the scheme is as faulty as it is being projected or will it open doors to new opportunities and better source of income for the downtrodden youth of India. The article also sheds light on schemes similar to Agneepath in other countries which have been successfully implemented.
