The Effect of Using Scientific Literacy Improving Activities on Student Achievement in Science Lessons

This research was made to determine the effect of scientific vocabulary improving activities on the success of science and technology lessons. The research has been made on the 7th grade students who go on their education in the city of İzmir in the first term of 2022-2023 education year. Experiment and control groups have been chosen in 7th grade A and B classes in this research. Digestive system unit has been taught to the students of experiment group by using scientific vocabulary improving activities (vocabulary games, scientific stories, word wall, illustrated dictionary, science diaries), on the other hand; the students of control groups have been taught the way which has been suggested by the textbooks advised by Ministery of Education. The worksheets used in the research were developed by the researcher. Independent t-test was used to analyze the data that obtained from the pre and post-tests results of both groups. In the end of the research students of experiment who was taught by using scientific literacy improving activities were determined more successful than the students of control groups.
