Author Name : Mr. Etender Singh, Mr. Amit Singh, Mr. Vikram Yadav, Parveen Kumar

ABSTRACT

Urbanization is the process of urban area expansion. It changed the plains as well as mountainous areaswith time but the locations in hills commonly found the less areas to settle in comparison to plains. The same is in Indian context, where Himalayan states get less urbanized then the states in low altitude areas. So, to analyse the generalized extent of urbanization in mountainous areas, Himachal Pradesh has been chosen as the case study area. The study is site don secondary data, based on primary Census abstract (Final population) of the state. The study tries to analyse the different aspects of urbanization with several statistical techniques for 2001 and 2011.It has been found that there are so many variations in the extent of urbanization within Himachal Pradesh. There are limited core urban areas i.e Shimla, Manaliand Solan, which has more impact on the rural population whereas urban area likely to Solan or Manali is absent in Kinnaur and Lahul and Spiti even after decades of independence.
