The Myriad Faces of Karna: Ini Njan Urangatte, Anuyathra and Yajnaseni
Author Name : Sinsha SS
ABSTRACT The Mahabharata, one of the most important epic poems of ancient India is filled with events and characters. Many writers have adapted some of the events and characters in the Mahabharata to present their own works related with this epic. Karna, one of the well known characters of the Mahabharata became the favourite subject of many of the regional writers. Kuttikrishna Marar, one of the most important persons who studied the Mahabharata views Karna as a noble character. There is no other tragic character in the history of the epics who takes an important position in literary history through the brilliant characterisation. Karna as a character is viewed differently by different writers. Though the character is there in the same skelton whom the epic provides, the writers filled the skelton with flesh and blood according to their interest. The writers view Karna as a character through their own perspective or present the character through the perspective of other important characters in the epic. They always view the response of Karna at various situations through different ways. “The Myriad Faces of Karna: Ini Njan Urangatte, Anuyathra and Yajnaseni” studies how Karna as a character is portrayed through the narration of these novels.
