The Role of Sabarmati Ashram in Gandhi's Vision for Socio-Economic Transformation

Author Name : Saumil Rajnikant Suthar

ABSTRACT The Sabarmati Ashram, founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917, played a crucial role in the Indian independence movement and served as a model for socio-economic transformation based on Gandhian principles. This paper explores the Ashram's significant contributions to rural development, education, and social reform. It delves into the Ashram's key initiatives, such as the Khadi Movement, Nai Talim (Basic Education), and the promotion of village industries, which collectively aimed to foster self-reliance, economic independence, and social equality. The Ashram's emphasis on communal living and inclusivity, particularly its efforts to abolish untouchability and empower women, are examined to understand their impact on Indian society.
