ABSTRACT The Pedaliaceae family includes Sesamum Indicum, an annual plant with a wide range of species in places including Asia, Africa, and Latin America. it is used in medicine for its various prospects like carminative, digestive, sedative, and analgesic, the purpose of this review is to know more about its nutritional component and effect on the health benefits of sesame. Sesame is utilized in daily life for various advantages in food, feed, and cosmetics. seeds of Sesame are extremely high in fats and protein providing a variety of health advantages. Sesame seed is also rich in lignans-like active ingredients. There are several lignans are present in sesame like sesamin, sesamolin, sesaminol, and sesamol. These lignans are rich in antioxidant properties. This lignan shows various properties against different diseases. This lignan exhibits antihypertensive and hypercholesterolemia as well especially in humans as well due to which especially in human due to which it has become a compound that has tremendous research interest nowadays. This review is a summary of sesamum indicum and its lignans for its nutritional value, phytochemistry, disadvantage, different types of formulations, and health benefits of sesamum indicum, how sesame is used in the modern world, and the processing of sesame for its future development
