Thematic Analysis of the Christian Allegory, ‘Pilgrims Progress’
Author Name : Ms. Jayapradha. J, Dr. Sowmiya. L M
ABSTRACT
The Pilgrims Progress that is written in the year 1678 by John Bunyan is a Christian allegory. It is the most widely read book next to the Bible which is still in print. This was published during the reign of Charles while its puritan author was imprisoned for acting against the Conventicle Act of 1593 according to which religious services conducted outside the bailiwick of the church of England were prohibited. The allegorical poem, which is divided into two parts aims to symbolize the vision of noble men’s pilgrimage through life. Puriton authors focused on reviving the religious faiths through their writings as the people of the medieval age gave least importance to faith in religion. This article intends to disclose the themes and the purpose of having written to the readers.
