Therapeutic Potential of Silver Nanoparticles in Cancer Therapy-A Review

Author Name : Sneha S, Aatish Nilesh Pala, Ankit Yogesh Borale, Priscilla Caroline

ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology presents a new perspective for the detection, protection as well as treatment of cancers. With the improvement of varied diagnostic devices and therapeutic strategies, the mortality of cancer has been significantly inhibited but unfortunately no efficient methodology is available for selectively binding to cancer cells for preventing toxicity and side effects. To overcome this scenario, the nanoparticles emerge as a beneficial tool. In recent years, numerous studies reported that silver nanoparticles can be successfully employed as anticancer agents due to their potential anti proliferative and apoptosis-inducing properties. The candidature of the silver nanoparticle is dependent on its unique ability to induce cell death in the mammalian cells which helps in targeting the unregulated proliferation of the tumour cell and cell ass. AgNPs when applied simultaneously with the conventional therapeutic approaches like the chemotherapy and radiotherapy can provide a higher therapeutic efficiency. Athorough analysis of toxicology with a secured biocompatibility can promise a safe and efficient AgNP-based oncotherapy. As the transition to metal nanoparticles for approved clinical treatment regimens is on the way, the Ag-NPs can promise a better therapeutic care in cancer. This work is aimed in elucidating an overview on thevarious types of synthesis, the mechanism of action in oncogenes is and the therapeutic potential of silver nanoparticles in cancer therapy.
