ABSTRACT
Depression refers to a group of mental health conditions characterised by a lack of interest in ordinary tasks, a pessimistic outlook, and a variety of linked emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioural symptoms.Natural drugs have recently gained favour in the worldwide health drug as antidepressants. The antidepressant properties of Hylocereus undatus, sometimes known as dragon fruit, were investigated in this study. We found that giving 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg methanolic seed extract of H. undatus (MSEHU) and standard drug imipramine (10 mg/kg) to respective groups of animals for 14 days significantly reduced immobility time in both tail suspension test (TST) and Force swim test (FST) when compared to positive control group. To induce depression, reserpine (0.5mg/kg) was utilised as an inducing medication.
