Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor: Aatam-Nirbhar (Self-reliant) in Defence Manufacturing

Defence Corridor refers to a route or path which is used by the public sector, private sector and MSMEs for domestic production of defence equipment as well as for enhancing equipment/operational capacity for defenceforces. In his budget speech in February 2018, the Finance Minister had announced that two Defence Industrial Production Corridors would be set up in the country to boost the domestic defence industry. In this the government envisaged the construction of corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamilnadu.India is fast emerging as a major aerospace and defence market with requirements of over USD 250 billion by 2025. India is one of the top five military spenders and one of the emerging defence manufacturing hubs in the world. These defence requirements span from military aircraft, submarines, helicopters, land systems to weapons and sensors. In order to take advantage of the present economic opportunity, to achieve self-reliance in the aerospace and defence sector, the Government of India during the Union Budget of 2018-19 announced the establishment of two Defence Industrial Corridors, one in Uttar Pradesh and the other in Tamil Nadu.
